Program Overview: This program is a 5-hour course each with 1-hour lectures presented by experts in their field in reconstructive procedures for complicated orthopedic problems. During each lecture, case studies will be provided to demonstrate common reconstructive problems and the solutions available. Participants will be given instruction on how to implement new surgical techniques and instructed on appropriate follow up and evaluation of these problems after surgical treatment. After this program, surgeons will have an improved knowledge base in which to determine treatment options for their patients and this improved knowledge base will be seen hi the improved outcomes of the patients for which they provide care.
Objectives: After the program, participants will be able to: • Identify potential complications with orthopedic bone and joint disruption. • Develop appropriate plan for work up and imaging studies. • Develop appropriate algorithm and differential diagnosis to aid in surgical treatment decision making. • Discuss the appropriate instrumentation and surgical techniques required to treat complex joint reconstruction problems. • Implement surgical techniques that are standard of care for complex orthopedic problems. • Develop appropriate systems for follow up and evaluation of surgical treatments.
Accreditation: All participants are required to sign attendance rosters at the beginning of each day. A certificate of completion will be provided to all activity participants based on documentation of actual attendance time.
Physicians: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the KU Medical Center Office of Continuing Medical Education and Kansas Orthopedic Society. The KU Medical Center Office of Continuing Medical Education is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The KU Medical Center Office of Continuing Medical Education designates this educational activity for a maximum 5.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
